Terms & Privacy
Version 2026-10-24
Terms of Service
These terms are an agreement between you and Jointora ("Jointora", "we", "us"). By creating an account, or by supporting a request, you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use Jointora.
1. What Jointora is
Jointora lets creators publish requests, which are specific things they want their audience to help make happen, and lets supporters contribute money toward them. Jointora provides the software that connects the two. Jointora is not a bank, a charity, an investment platform or a store, and it is not a party to the arrangement between a creator and their supporters.
2. Who can use Jointora
- You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority where you live.
- You must give accurate information and keep your login details secret. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- One person or organisation per account. Tell us promptly if you think your account has been misused.
3. Contributions
- A contribution is a voluntary payment to support a creator's request. It is not a purchase of goods or services, a loan, a donation to a registered charity, or an investment, and it does not give you ownership, equity or a right to profit.
- Creators, not Jointora, are responsible for carrying out their requests and for sharing the progress and results they promise. Jointora cannot guarantee that any request will be completed, or completed as described.
- Please only contribute what you are comfortable giving. Contributions are generally not refundable, except where a creator chooses to refund, where a payment was made in error or fraudulently, or where the law requires it. Contact us if you think a contribution should be reviewed.
- Payment confirmation comes from our payment provider. A contribution counts toward a request only after the provider confirms it.
4. Fees
Jointora keeps a platform fee on each successful contribution (currently 5%). Our payment provider also charges payment-processing fees, which are separate and set by that provider. The fee that applies is shown to creators in their dashboard. We may change fees for future contributions with notice.
5. Payments and payouts
Payments are handled by third-party payment providers. Jointora never sees or stores full card details. Creators must complete the provider's identity and account checks before they can receive money, and are responsible for any taxes that apply to what they receive. We may delay, hold or reverse payments where we reasonably suspect fraud, a breach of these terms, or where a provider or the law requires it.
6. What creators agree to
- Describe each request honestly and accurately, including what the money is for.
- Use the money for the purpose you described, and make a genuine effort to deliver it.
- Post updates when things change, and mark a request completed with a truthful result when it is finished.
- Hold the rights to everything you upload or post, or have permission to use it.
7. What is not allowed
You may not use Jointora to:
- break the law, or help anyone else do so;
- raise money for tobacco or vaping products, alcohol, recreational or controlled drugs, weapons or ammunition, or other regulated or restricted goods;
- mislead people, for example by faking a creator, a request, progress or a result;
- post content that is hateful, harassing, sexually exploitative (and never anything involving minors), or that infringes someone's intellectual-property or privacy rights;
- launder money, evade sanctions, or make payments with stolen or unauthorised payment methods;
- try to break, probe or overload Jointora, access other people's data, or interfere with payments.
8. Your content
You keep ownership of what you post. You give Jointora a worldwide, non-exclusive licence to host, display and share it as needed to run the service, for example showing your request page and previews of it on social platforms.
9. Moderation and ending an account
We may remove content, pause a request, hold payments or suspend or close an account if we reasonably believe these terms are broken, someone could be harmed, or the law requires it. You can stop using Jointora at any time and ask us to close your account (use the Contact page and choose “Close my account”). Records of past payments must be kept and cannot be deleted.
10. Our responsibility
Jointora is provided "as is". We work hard to keep it secure and available, but we cannot promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free. To the extent the law allows, Jointora is not liable for losses caused by a creator's actions or failure to deliver, by payment-provider outages, or for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the fees Jointora earned from you in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. When we make a significant change we will ask you to accept the new version before you continue to use your account. The version you accepted is recorded.
12. Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Kenya, and the courts of Kenya have jurisdiction, without affecting any consumer rights you have under the law where you live. Questions or concerns? Please contact us.
Privacy Policy
This explains what personal information Jointora collects, why we collect it, who it is shared with and what choices you have. We collect only what we need to run the service.
1. What we collect
- Account details: your email address and a securely hashed password (we never store your password itself). If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google email address and account identifier.
- Creator profile: username, display name, bio, photo, social links and requests you publish. This is public once you publish it.
- Supporter details: the amount you contribute, and, if you choose to give them, your name, email and message. You can support anonymously; an anonymous contribution is not shown with your name on the public page.
- Payment information: handled by our payment provider. We receive confirmation of a payment and its reference, not your card number.
- Usage data: counts of events such as request views, support-button clicks and checkouts started, used to understand whether Jointora is working, and standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) used for security and troubleshooting.
- Messages to us: what you send through the Contact page.
- Cookies: one essential cookie that keeps you logged in. We do not use advertising cookies.
2. How we use it
- To create and secure your account, and run requests, contributions and updates.
- To confirm payments, show funding progress, and send you confirmations and notifications.
- To prevent fraud and abuse, and to meet legal and payment-provider requirements.
- To answer your messages, and to improve Jointora.
3. Who we share it with
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run Jointora, and only what they need:
- payment providers (to process contributions and pay creators);
- our hosting and database providers (to store and serve the service);
- our email provider (to send confirmations and notifications);
- Google, if you choose to sign in with Google.
Creators can see the details a supporter chose to share with them (such as name, email and message) for contributions to their requests. We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect people from fraud or harm.
4. Where it is stored
Our providers may store and process data in other countries, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers.
5. How long we keep it
We keep account information while your account is open. Payment and contribution records are kept for as long as needed for accounting, tax, fraud-prevention and legal reasons, even after an account is closed. Support messages are kept only as long as needed to help you and to keep a record of the conversation.
6. Your choices and rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, or have it deleted, subject to the records we are required to keep. If you are in Kenya, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or another place with data-protection law, you may have further rights, including to object to or limit some uses and to complain to your data-protection authority. To make a request, contact us.
7. Security
We use industry-standard protections, including encrypted connections, hashed passwords and strict access controls. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password.
8. Children
Jointora is not for people under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
9. Changes
If we change this policy in a significant way we will update the version shown above and, where required, ask you to accept it again.
